On January 8, 15, and 22, we are going to take an in-depth look at one of the most unique books of the Bible — Jonah. Jonah is essentially a short story, but one with layers of complexity. On Jan. 8 we will explore the question, “Is Jonah a comedy?” What elements of Jonah are meant to be funny and how can comedic genres like satire inform our interpretation of this book? On Jan. 15 we will explore the use of animals and nature in Jonah. There’s a lot more than just that big fish. Is Jonah a story about the natural world? On Jan. 22, we will take a look at the long prayer/psalm found in the second chapter. What’s this psalm doing in the middle of a short story?
